Impact of Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA) on Health Status and Well-being
This research study is about creating a new, specific questionnaire for people living with a long-term lung condition called Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA). The main goal is to develop and test this new questionnaire to accurately measure how CPA affects a person's health and daily life, including their quality of life. This tool will be very useful in future medical studies and clinical trials to better understand the impact of CPA and how new treatments might help. We are looking for adults aged 18 or over who have been diagnosed with CPA and can speak and understand English to help us develop this important new tool. Your participation will help future patients with CPA.
At a glance
What is this study about?
This study focuses on developing a new way to understand how Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA) affects people's lives. CPA is a long-term lung infection caused by a common mould, and it can significantly impact a person's health and well-being. Currently, there isn't a specific tool that fully captures all the ways CPA affects daily life.
The main aim of this research is to create and test a new questionnaire, which we're calling the CPA-HAQ. This questionnaire is designed specifically for people with CPA to help medical professionals and researchers understand their health and quality of life more accurately. By having such a dedicated tool, we can get a clearer picture of how the condition impacts individuals.
Why is this important? Having a reliable and specific questionnaire means that in future clinical trials and medical studies, researchers will have a much better way to measure if new treatments are making a real difference to patients' lives. It helps us track changes in health and well-being more effectively than general health questionnaires, ultimately leading to better care and treatment options for those living with CPA.
Key takeaways
- Developing a new questionnaire for people with Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA).
- Aims to accurately measure how CPA affects health and daily life.
- No new medications or treatments are involved.
- Participation involves completing a questionnaire.
- Helps improve future research and care for CPA patients.
- Open to adults aged 18+ with a CPA diagnosis, who speak English.
Who may be eligible?
To take part in this study, you need to meet a few specific requirements. Firstly, you must be 18 years old or older. There is no upper age limit, so adults of any age are welcome to consider participating.
Secondly, a key requirement is that you have a confirmed diagnosis of Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA). This study is specifically designed for people living with this particular lung condition.
Finally, you need to be able to speak and understand English well enough to complete the questionnaire and give your informed consent. Giving informed consent means you understand what the study involves and agree to take part voluntarily.
- Are you 18 years old or older?
- Have you been diagnosed with Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA)?
- Can you speak and understand English clearly?
- Are you able to agree to take part in the study after understanding what's involved?
This is a guide only — the research team will confirm whether you can take part.
What does participation involve?
This study primarily involves completing a questionnaire. You won't be given any new medications or treatments as part of this research, nor will there be any follow-up appointments related specifically to the study. The process is straightforward: if you are eligible and agree to take part, you will be asked to complete the newly developed questionnaire. The total time commitment for participation is expected to be minimal, likely involving one session to fill out the questionnaire. There are no hospital visits or long-term commitments required for this study.

Common questions
What is Chronic Pulmonary Aspergillosis (CPA)?
CPA is a long-term lung infection caused by a common type of mould called Aspergillus. It can cause various symptoms and affect your overall health.
Why is this questionnaire important?
This new questionnaire will help doctors and researchers better understand how CPA affects your daily life and well-being, which can lead to better ways to measure the impact of treatments in the future.
Do I need to take new medication?
No, this study is only about developing a questionnaire. You won't be given any new medications or treatments as part of this research.
How long will it take?
Participating will involve completing a questionnaire, which is expected to take a minimal amount of time in one session. There are no ongoing commitments.
Can I change my mind about participating?
Yes, you are completely free to withdraw from the study at any point without needing to give a reason, and it will not affect your medical care.
