A Usability Validation of the MuCopilot Mobile Application, a Digital Tool for the Unsupervised Objective Assessment of Cystic Fibrosis
This study is testing a new smartphone app called MuCopilot for people living with cystic fibrosis (CF). The app aims to help you check your lung function, how well you can exercise, and your symptoms from home, between your regular doctor's appointments. For example, it measures things like coughing and how easily you can walk. The main goal of the study is to make sure the MuCopilot app is easy to use, safe, and works correctly when people use it by themselves at home. It's important that the app doesn't cause any problems or risks. This study will involve just 17 people with CF in France.
At a glance
What is this study about?
Imagine being able to check how your cystic fibrosis (CF) is doing from the comfort of your own home, using just your smartphone. That's what the MuCopilot app aims to help with! This study is all about testing this brand-new app. MuCopilot is like a digital assistant that can measure important things about your lung health and how well you can move around, as well as tracking your symptoms. It's designed for you to use between your regular doctor's visits.
The main point of this study is to make sure the MuCopilot app is really simple to use and completely safe. The researchers want to be certain that when you use the app by yourself, it works exactly as it should without any errors or problems that could be risky. Your safety and how easy it is for you to use the app are the top priorities.
This study is quite small, involving only 17 people with CF in France. Their experiences will be vital in making sure MuCopilot is ready to potentially help many more people in the future. By checking how people actually use the app at home, the study helps make sure it's a helpful and reliable tool for managing CF.
Key takeaways
- New smartphone app (MuCopilot) being tested for Cystic Fibrosis.
- Aims to help monitor lung health and exercise at home.
- Study focused on making sure the app is safe and easy to use.
- Only 17 participants needed, based in France.
- Involves using your own smartphone and attending two visits.
Who may be eligible?
To join this study, you need to be at least 18 years old and have cystic fibrosis. You also need to be part of a social security program, be able to read French, and understand the pictures on a smartphone app. Very importantly, you must own a personal smartphone (iPhone 14 or newer, or Android 8 or newer) with a good internet connection, and feel comfortable using it.
There are some reasons why you wouldn't be able to join. If you've had a lung transplant, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, this study isn't for you. Also, if a doctor thinks there's any other health issue that might interfere with the study or make it unsafe, you wouldn't be able to participate. If you can't read French, can't use a smartphone, or are under legal protection, you also won't be able to take part.
Could this study suit you?
Answer these quick questions to see if you may be eligible. This is a guide only — the research team makes the final call.
- Are you 18 years old or older?
- Do you have Cystic Fibrosis?
- Do you own a suitable smartphone (iPhone 14+ or Android 8+) with internet?
- Can you read French and understand app pictures?
- Are you NOT pregnant, breastfeeding, or had a lung transplant?
What does participation involve?
If you decide to take part in this study, you'll need to attend two appointments. The first is an 'inclusion' visit where you'll learn all about the study and decide if you want to join. Then, you'll have one clinic visit which will last about 1 hour and 30 minutes. During this clinic visit, you'll download the free MuCopilot app to your own smartphone.
Once you have the app, you'll use it to complete three simple digital tests. These tests will help monitor aspects of your *CF* like how you cough, if you feel breathless, and how well you can walk. You'll also fill out a questionnaire about your symptoms. The study doesn't involve any new medications, just the use of the smartphone app to collect information.
