The Effect of Humiome® Post LB on Gut COMFort in healthY Adult Volunteers

This research study is trying to find out if a dietary supplement called Humiome® Post LB (170 mg strength) can help improve how often and how easily healthy adults go to the toilet, especially if they sometimes have gut discomfort. Participants will take either Humiome® Post LB or a dummy pill (placebo) every day for 8 weeks. Neither the participants nor the study team will know who is getting which. The study will look at whether Humiome® Post LB improves bowel movements for people who have reported some tummy issues. If you take part, you'll be asked to fill out diaries, answer questions, and provide stool samples during the study period.

What is this study about?

Imagine you sometimes feel a bit uncomfortable in your tummy or notice changes in how often you go to the toilet. This study is designed to explore whether a new product, called Humiome® Post LB, might help with these kinds of issues. It's a type of dietary supplement, and we're carefully testing it to understand its effects.

The main goal of this study is to see if taking Humiome® Post LB for 8 weeks helps improve your bowel movements if you've reported having some gut discomfort. We want to find out if it can make a difference compared to not taking any active supplement. This is important because understanding how different supplements affect our bodies can help us find new ways to support gut health and comfort.

To make sure we get clear and reliable answers, some people in the study will receive Humiome® Post LB, while others will get a placebo – this is a dummy pill that looks exactly like the real thing but contains no active ingredients. This helps us ensure that any changes we see are truly due to Humiome® Post LB and not just other factors. Everyone taking part will be healthy adults who have some self-reported tummy troubles.

Key takeaways

  • This study evaluates Humiome® Post LB for gut comfort and bowel movements.
  • It involves healthy adults who experience some tummy troubles.
  • Participants take either the supplement or a placebo for 8 weeks.
  • The study aims to see if Humiome® Post LB improves bowel habits.
  • You'll complete diaries, questionnaires, and provide stool samples.
  • Your participation will help researchers understand new dietary supplement effects.

Who may be eligible?

To join this study, you need to be a healthy adult between 18 and 75 years old. You should have reported some ongoing tummy troubles, like a certain number of bowel movements per week and specific stool types, along with other symptoms like bloating or mild cramps. Your weight should also be within a certain range (BMI between 18.5 and 29.9).

It's important that your weight has been stable for the last three months, and that you are generally in good health. You must be willing to avoid certain supplements and medications, such as prebiotics, probiotics, and anti-diarrhoea or anti-constipation medicines, for the duration of the study. You also need to be able to continue your usual diet, lifestyle, and exercise habits as normal.

For women, if you could still have children, you must not be pregnant and agree to use a reliable form of birth control throughout the study. If you've had certain medical procedures or have been through menopause for at least a year, these birth control requirements might not apply.

What does participation involve?

If you decide to take part in this study, you will be given either Humiome® Post LB or a dummy pill (placebo) to take every day for 8 weeks. You won't know which one you're receiving, and neither will the study team. Throughout this period, you'll be asked to keep a study diary, fill out questionnaires about your gut comfort and bowel habits, and provide some small stool samples.

You'll have a few visits to the study clinic during the 8 weeks, where the team will check in on you and collect information. There will also be some initial checks to make sure you're suitable for the study before you start taking the product. Your total involvement, including initial screening, taking the product, and follow-up, will last for a set period, which the study team will explain to you in detail.

Potential risks and benefits

Taking part in a study like this means you might be among the first to try a new supplement, which could potentially help with your gut comfort and bowel movements. However, there's also a chance that the product might not work for you, or you might be given the placebo instead of the active supplement. As with any product, there could be side effects, though these will be carefully monitored by the study team. You have the right to withdraw from the study at any time, for any reason, without it affecting your usual medical care.
