Study Evaluating the Effect of Humiome® Post LB on Stress, Anxiety, and Cognition in Aging Adults
This research is investigating if a daily supplement, Humiome® Post LB, can reduce stress and anxiety and improve thinking skills in adults aged 50 to 75. It will compare this supplement, which is a type of 'postbiotic' (made from inactive good bacteria), to a placebo (a dummy pill) over a three-month period. Participants will be in good general health, but may have mild memory complaints. The study aims to understand how Humiome® Post LB might affect these areas, as well as sleep and gut health. It's designed to be 'double-blinded,' meaning neither the researchers nor the participants will know who is getting the real supplement and who is getting the placebo, making the results more reliable.
At a glance
What is this study about?
You might have heard about 'good bacteria' in your gut. This study is looking at something similar but different, called a 'postbiotic.' A postbiotic is a substance produced by good bacteria that might offer health benefits. In this study, researchers want to find out if taking a particular postbiotic called Humiome® Post LB every day for three months can help people aged 50 to 75 feel less stressed and anxious, and possibly improve their thinking skills.
The health of our gut can be linked to many other parts of our body, including our mood and brain function. This study will carefully examine these connections by measuring stress levels, how well people sleep, their anxiety, and even the types of bacteria living in their gut. They will compare people taking the Humiome® Post LB to those taking a look-alike dummy pill (placebo) to see if the postbiotic really makes a difference.
Taking part in a study like this helps us learn more about potential new ways to support our health as we get older. The information gathered could be important for understanding how our gut health might impact our overall well-being, especially when it comes to managing stress, anxiety, and maintaining good brain function. All participants will be in good general health, and the study is designed to be fair and unbiased so we can trust the results.
Key takeaways
- This study explores a postbiotic supplement for stress, anxiety, and thinking skills.
- It involves adults aged 50 to 75 with generally good health.
- Participants will take either the supplement or a dummy pill daily for three months.
- The study is 'double-blinded' for fair and accurate results.
- It aims to understand the link between gut health and overall well-being as we age.
Who may be eligible?
This study is looking for men and women between the ages of 50 and 75. To take part, your Body Mass Index (BMI) should be between 18.5 and 32, which is generally considered a healthy weight range or slightly overweight. You should also be in good overall health, as decided by the study doctor. It's important that you don't have any serious mental health conditions like clinical depression, Alzheimer's disease, or other significant brain or nerve problems that could affect the study results.
You might be a good fit if you feel you have mild to moderate problems with your memory, but this will be checked by the study doctor. You also need to have certain stress and anxiety levels, as measured by a questionnaire, that fall within a specific range. It's crucial that you are willing to keep your eating, exercise, medication, and smoking habits (if you have them) the same throughout the entire study period. If you've started new treatments for stress, anxiety, or memory, such as yoga, in the last month, you might not be able to join.
There are also some reasons why you wouldn't be able to join. For instance, if you have certain ongoing serious health conditions affecting your stomach, hormones, heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, or pancreas, you wouldn't be eligible. Women whose high stress or anxiety is clearly caused by menopause changes would also not be able to participate.
Could this study suit you?
Answer these quick questions to see if you may be eligible. This is a guide only — the research team makes the final call.
- Are you between 50 and 75 years old?
- Is your BMI between 18.5 and 32 (generally a healthy weight or slightly overweight)?
- Do you feel you have mild to moderate memory issues?
- Do you have certain levels of stress and anxiety (this will be checked by the study)?
- Are you in good general health (no major ongoing serious illnesses)?
- Are you willing to keep your daily habits (diet, exercise, medications) stable for three months?
What does participation involve?
If you decide to take part in this study, you'll be involved for about three months. During this time, you will take either the Humiome® Post LB supplement or a placebo (a dummy pill) every day. You won't know which one you're taking, and neither will the study team, to keep the results fair.
You'll have a few visits to the study clinic where the team will check your health, ask you questions about your stress, anxiety, sleep, and memory, and potentially take some samples, like stool samples, to look at your gut bacteria. These assessments will help the researchers understand if the supplement is having any effect. You'll need to keep up your usual diet, exercise, and any medications or supplements you normally take throughout the study. The study team will explain everything in detail, and you'll have a chance to ask any questions you have.

Common questions
What is a 'postbiotic'?
A postbiotic is a substance made by good bacteria that might help keep you healthy. It's not a living bacteria itself.
What is a placebo?
A placebo is a 'dummy pill' that looks exactly like the real supplement but doesn't contain any active ingredients. It helps researchers compare results fairly.
Will I know if I'm taking the real supplement or the placebo?
No, neither you nor the study team will know which you are taking during the study. This is called 'double-blinded' and helps ensure the results are accurate.
How long will the study last?
If you join, you will be involved in the study for a total of three months.
What does 'healthy aging' mean for this study?
It means the study is looking for people who are generally in good health, even if they have some mild memory concerns, rather than people with serious diagnosed illnesses.
